The management of the Animal Research Institute (ARI), one of the key research institutions under the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has commended Citi 97.3 FM and Citi TV for instituting the #OperationFeedYourself project.
The institute has also committed to making the #OperationFeedYourself project successful by providing research and technical support for the people who would be inspired to go into farming through the project.
Speaking at a meeting held at the institute on Thursday at the Frafraha Station, the Managing Director of Citi FM and Citi TV, Mr. Samuel Attah-Mensah expressed optimism that the partnership would drive growth in the sector and set Ghana off on a trajectory to becoming food sufficient.
“#OperationFeedYourself is to re-ignite interest in agriculture. We are targetting people who are not farmers, middle-income earners, tertiary students and people who are in the urban areas to look at farming and agribusiness as another means to generate revenue, compliment the revenues and basically to feed themselves. This partnership will ensure the needed technical know-how is made available to the thousands of people who really want to do something but have very little knowledge to do it successfully. We are happy to see all the amazing work the Animal Research Institute has done and hope that together, we shall enable people to begin, sustain and grow their agribusiness,” he said.
Prof. Edmund Sottie, the head of the Frafraha Station, and his team encouraged Citi 97.3 FM and Citi TV to be unrelenting in pushing the national development agenda by continuously supporting science and research.
“We are very happy to support Citi FM drive this project. We are happy you focus on the most important aspects of our national development by having impactful conversations and campaigns, including your support for science and research. As an institution respected worldwide, we have done a lot of work that can change the fortunes of the nation. There are many things that we can do together to increase our livestock and poultry production. There are huge opportunities in feed and processing as well. We are committed to sharing the knowledge and expertise to increase production, reduce imports and spur us on to export and create wealth for the nation through agriculture,” he added.
‘Operation Feed Yourself’ is a project seeks to provide the needed catalyst for people interested in Agriculture to venture into the industry.
Among other things, #OperationFeedYourself seeks to encourage people to use agriculture and agribusiness as a supplementary revenue source in the short term and to get as many people as possible to go into full-time farming in the medium to long term.
