Ibrahim Danlad is not my second choice goalkeeper-CK Akonnor
Despite his heroics against Hearts of Oak in the NC Special Cup, young goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad is yet to steal the second spot in the Kotoko goal, according to Coach CK Akonnor.
Akonnor handed the former Black Starlets goalkeeper an opportunity to keep against Hearts of Oak on Sunday in the absence of first choice and deputy captain of the side Felix Annan who is on National assignment with the Black Stars team.
Danlad did not disappoint as he took up the task and kept his side in the game with some crucial saves.
The goalkeeper although could not save a penalty narrowed things up for Hearts defender Mohammed Alhassan during the shootouts when he stretched to the direction of the latter’s kick for force the ball to hit the post.
Many have since called for the Ghana U20 goalkeeper to become the second choice for the Club however CK thinks otherwise.
“No, Danlad is not the second choice yet, yes he did well yesterday, we have Osei and Muntari Tagoe as well,” he said on Happy FM.
“All the three goalkeepers could have kept the post but I decided to give him (Danlad) the opportunity.
“That was his second game in the competition, he had also kept in a couple of friendlies. However it doesn’t mean he is the second choice.
“It could be that on Wednesday Osei or Muntari could be in post. We have four goalkeepers and in the absence of Felix Annan any of the other three can be in the post.”
Kotoko now prepares to face Ashanti Gold in the tier 1 of the NC Special Cup semi-final.
