Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp explains James Kotei’s debut delay
Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says new signing James Kotei needs time to adapt to his system in order to make his debut for the Club.
The Ghanaian is yet to feature for Chiefs since joining them from Tanzanian powerhouse SIMBA FC.
Kotei was among four new signings by the South African side but yet to have a taste of action at the Club.
The midfielder was signed alongside Lazarous Kambole , Samir Nurkovic and Kearyn Baccus. Among the four players Kotei is the only player yet to make his debut for the Club.
And Middendorp believes the player needs time to settle in well.
“It is not unusual that players need a bit more time, and good, I’m very happy about [their progress so far],” said Middendorp.
“Even Lazarous Kambole is not at his best that he can bring to us, but Samir is so far a very confident type of player, knowing the professional setup.
“Lazarous is close to him; Kearyn Baccus is a bit behind, having come in later – he was not with us from the beginning [of pre-season] – and, of course, James Kotei is in a similar case.
“We have to look into how far we can give them a little bit of time, and I think with the options in different areas that we have, we can provide them that time to bring them in and to really adapt.”
The former Liberty Professionals player, 26, was a household name in Tanzania before moving to South Africa.
