NC Special Cup: Kotoko edge Hearts on penalties to advance to finals

Kotoko defeated Hearts on penalties to progress to the finals of the NC Special Cup.

Captain Amos Frimpong was the hero as he converted the last kick to see Kotoko through to the finals after Hearts of Oak defender Mohammed Alhassan had missed his kick.

Both teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw in regulation time which eventually pushed the game to penalty shootouts.

Abdul Fatawu Safiu scored as early in the 4th minute to put Kotoko into the lead. Hearts of Oak after conceding showed resilience as they pressed in search for the equalizer.

The Phobians who had enjoyed a lion share of possession crowned their excellent display with a late penalty  after an initially call had been overlooked by the referee following a tackle on Joseph Esso who looked to have been brought down by Kotoko center back Abdul Ganiyu in the box.

Christopher Bonney took the mandate upon himself and converted to draw Hearts of Oak level.

Both teams showed quality during the penalty shootouts, however Mohammed Allhassan emerged a victim as he squandered his kick for Amos Frimpong to score to see Kotoko advance to the finals.

The reigning FA Cup Champions will now face Karela United who also defeated Ashanti Gold in the other semi-final game.
