MainOne has selected Appolonia City, Greater Accra’s inclusive mixed-use new city, for a new data centre in Ghana. Through MDXi, a MainOne subsidiary that is the largest commercial data centre services provider in the region, the company will boost its already robust infrastructure and service profile in Ghana, in line with its regional expansion plans.

The new Tier III facility on one acre of land in Appolonia Industrial Park is expected to be ready for service in 2020. It will cater to the ever-increasing demand for colocation and interconnection services for multinationals and local businesses seeking shared services for their ICT resources in world-class facilities.

The data centre will be designed to international standards consistent with the MainOne brand, assuring collocated customers of the highest quality of service to meet their business requirements.

“As an organisation committed to providing broadband infrastructure solutions across West Africa, we are excited to make this investment to support the digitisation journey of our customers with the new data centre facility,” said Kazeem Oladepo, Regional Executive, MainOne. “Over the past few years, we have grown our business in Ghana to serve major enterprises and we are delighted to bring our world-class data centre expertise to deepen the Ghanaian market.”

Speaking on the planned expansion, Gbenga Adegbiji, Director, MDXi, stated, “This expansion will see MDXi contributing to the growth of the local economy by providing jobs, enhancing capacity development and economic growth.”

Appolonia City CEO Bright Owusu-Amofah said, “The partnership with MainOne establishes Appolonia Industrial Park as the hub for business in Ghana, with scalable ICT infrastructure to support locally hosted and digitally empowered homes and businesses at Appolonia City.”

MDXi’s world-class infrastructure features private data centre suites, enterprise-grade 24×7 multi-level security and video surveillance, precision cooling, safety and fire suppression systems with multiple redundancies built into the power, cooling and security infrastructure.

In line with its parent company’s leadership in the telecoms sector, the new facility will offer open access connectivity options to all the leading telecom networks in Ghana and direct access to MainOne and other submarine cable systems.

The facility will provide access to various Internet Exchanges including the GIX (Ghana), IXPN (Nigeria), LINX (London), DECIX (Frankfurt/Lisbon), and Cote d’Ivoire Internet Exchange (CIVIX), as well as the West Africa Internet Exchange (WAF-IX).

Appolonia Industrial Park is a 200-acre zone within Appolonia City’s 2,325-acre development with high-quality infrastructure specifically engineered for light industrial uses.

In addition to MainOne, other local and international companies are also developing facilities at the park, including Nickseth Construction, Alusynco, Crownhouse Construction & Logistics, PUMA Energy and Total Ghana.
